Welcome Message
Warm Greetings from Brunei Darussalam, The Abode of Peace.
Brunei, a rainforest covered gem of a country nestled on the northern shores of the island of Borneo, is a refreshing tourist destination offering a richly diverse natural and cultural heritage, a centuries old majestic Royal heritage and an exciting contemporary side of magnificent accommodation, premium golf, first class diving and modern and efficient infrastructure.
As a prosperous oil and gas producing nation with a small, peace loving population ruled benevolently by His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei, the 29th of an unbroken line dating back 600 years, Brunei is a safe, stable, healthy, wholesome and sincerely hospitable society.
With many natural, cultural and leisure activities available within easy reach in this small sized Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures, Brunei promises wholesome fun and excitement for families, honeymooners or those with interests such as nature, golf or diving.
A clean and pollution free environment, the near absence of traffic jams, un-crowded streets and a healthy lifestyle, make Brunei a perfect getaway for short holidays or for a break from the hectic pace of urban living.
For longer vacations, Brunei combines perfectly with the rest of Borneo, for which it is the international gateway. Brunei can also nicely complement multi-destination trips to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Manila, Bali, Dubai or any other destination in the Royal Brunei Airlines regional network, or can be an attractive stopover on the way to or from Australia and New Zealand.
Brunei’s tranquility, safety, first class amenities and distraction free environment make the destination ideal for focused and productive incentive trips, business meetings, brainstorming sessions, corporate retreats, team building events or conferences, while its opulent surroundings can give a definite touch of prestige to any product launch.
Background ASEAN Food Conference
The eleventh ASEAN Food Conference, which is a biennial event, will carry the theme "Food Science and Technology: Innovative Approaches and Opportunities for Global Market".
This three-days Conference, to be held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam from 21-23 October 2009, is organised by the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology (COST) and the Federation of Institutes of Food Science and Technology (FIFSTA), supported by the Ministry of Development (MOD), Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Brunei Darussalam Association of Food Science and Technology (BDAFST) and Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
The ASEAN Food Conference has, since its inception, developed into an important regional forum for food scientists, technologists, engineers and industry managers and executives as well as government and students in the field of food science and technology. The representatives from the ASEAN region and its international partners meet to discuss significant issues related to food science and technology, with the view to promote greater awareness in new and emerging technologies and developments, and the opportunities these offer for the global market.
The Conference, like its other preceding events, will feature a series of presentations and discussion in plenary, concurrent and poster sessions, informal gatherings, competition and an exhibition to highlight the various achievements of food science and technology in the region.
To overseas participants, it is hoped that you will find time to visit the many sights and attractions of Brunei Darussalam, and savour the various cultural cuisines while you are here.
It is with great pleasure to welcome you to our country - A Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures and looking forward to seeing you in Brunei Darussalam.
